Advancing Language Equity and Resilience in the Atmospheric Sciences (ALERTAS)

Representing one in every five Americans, 67 million individuals speak a language other than English at home, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data. Yet, our emergency systems are predominantly monolingual, reaching only English speakers. If our country does not endorse an official language, why should our emergency system? The ALERTAS lab addresses these pressing challenges by incorporating both practitioners and members of the public into our scientific research and discourse.
